Original and much sought after Fillmore East football jersey, used/worn at the legendary Fillmore East in New York City from 1968 thru 1971. This style jersey is extremely rare, especially in this condition. The jersey is in excellent condition, the Empire label/tag is just a bit frayed. This is a true rock and roll relic!!! This jersey was at the Fillmore East when. Big Brother and the Holding Company featuring Janis Joplin, Tim Buckley and Albert King opened its doors.
The Doors performed their epic "The End" with Jim Morrison slithering all over the stage in March of''68. The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Sly and the Family Stone provided a most memorable night of psychedelic rock and funk not to be forgotten on May 10th of 1968. Led Zeppelin making their NYC debut opened for Iron Butterfly and literally blew them off the stage in January of 1969. Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey of The Who got arrested and were charged with assaulting an under cover police officer, who got up on stage while they were performing to announce that there was a fire.
Janis Joplin introduced her new band (after leaving Big brother) and her opening act was the Grateful Dead in February of 1970. Jimi Hendrix and his Band of Gypsys rang in the New Year in 1970. Joe Cocker performed with a hastily put together and most memorable live concerts by his Mad Dogs and Englishmen featuring Leon Russell and an entourage that almost spilled off the stage. A Sydless Pink Floyd finding their way, via experimenting with layers and music and visual effects in April of 1970.A most important period for the band and their survival. Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young played the Fillmore East for five nights in June of 1970, most of their live album "Four Way Street" was from their shows at the Fillmore East. Eric Clapton introduced his new band Derek and the Dominos which was recorded and released as a two record set in October of 1970. The Allman Borthers Band played until daylight in March of 1971 while recording their ground breaking "Live at the Fillmore East" album. The Grateful Dead started their midnight series of concerts, most of which also ended at day light.
Humble Pie fronted by the incomparable Steve Marriott, tore the roof off the place while opening up for Lee Michaels in May of 1971. The Beatles John Lennon jamming with Frank Zappa and the Mothers inuring the closing month in June 1970. And when the doors closed on that final night on June 27th, when Albert King, the J.Geils Band, Mountain, Country Joe, Edgar Winter's White Trash, the Beach Boys and the Allman Brothers Band performed the last notes to ever be played at the Fillmore East and watched its doors close forever. The above is just a glimpse of some of the memorable nights of music that occurred at the Fillmore East, I spent many nights at the Fillmore, it was a very special time in my life, I was fortunate enough to witness some of the most amazing concerts. But looking back on it, it wasn't just the concerts, the theatre itself had a lot to do with it too. Its intimacy, its acoustics, its beauty, it had an aura to it. And anyone who was there knows what I mean.
I will never forget that magical time, a time that we will never see the likes of again. I have been collecting music memorabilia for almost over years now.
